Young people's views
I love being in my own flat and having my own independence. I love that I have decorated how I want and I have been supported to manage my own tenancy!
House Project taught me friendship, honesty, and how to check a light bulb
They are a very supportive team and the encourage independence and are very kind and caring and have a good sense of humour
The House Project is an amazing experience for children in care. I learnt a lot. I learnt how to be a lot more independent than before. I got to meet a lot of other young people in similar situations as me. The facilitators are amazing. They're always there to help you and support you. I'm now 18 and waiting for my flat. I still get support with everything whilst waiting.
House Project go on trips, sometimes to Manchester and sometimes to get suits. We went go karting too
They really really really really really helped me with budgeting skills because before I went to House Project, my budgeting was not good!!
I do recommend House Project and the reasons why are number 1: it's a great way for young people to live and function by themselves without getting themselves into debt. Reason 2: It gets care leavers off the streets and bad situations. Reason 3: The people you work with are wonderful people and have a big impact on my life. I've been with House Project nearly 2 years now and still ask for your help and support.
Our young people are also sharing their views and journey on our brand new podcast called We Move. Listen to House Project West Sussex: We Move! Here: We Move Podcast on Spotify
Young people at the heart of decision making
Their collective views and ideas drive the development of all House Projects through the Care Leavers National Movement. They meet on a regular basis to share good practice, talk about and find solutions to any challenges they are facing and to suggest new ways of doing things. They work hard, have fun and their views make a real difference to how young people leave care and move into their own homes.

In May, we were proud to attend the Frontline Awards to celebrate Coventry City Council’s Pathways service winning the Multi-Agency Partnership of the Year award. Funded by the Rayne Foundation, the Pathways programme brings together a number of organisations, including NHP, Coram Voice and The Rees Foundation, working closely alongside the Throughcare Service, Coventry House Project and Lifelong Links. Together, the partnership supports young people leaving care to develop skills, build positive relationships, and focus on their emotional health and wellbeing. Three cohorts of young people from Coventry have now go through the Pathways Programme. Seeing the partnership recognised nationally was a fantastic moment and a powerful reflection of the impact collaborative working can have in supporting care-experienced young people.

In May, the Aspirational Awards panel awarded just over £15,000 to 19 young people across our LHPs. It was inspiring to see such a wide range of ideas, goals and determination reflected in the applications, and a privilege to support more young people as they take their next steps forward. Funding in Round 9 supported training + graduate employment scheme, equipment for a baking business and support for other businesses, sports sessions, music lessons, lifeguard course, and day trips. We have also recently completed a 3 year review of our Aspirational Awards and the impact they’ve had. Over the past 3 years, we’ve awarded over £147,000 to 138 young people (not including figures from our most recent round in May). If you would like to find out more about how to support the Aspirational Awards please get in touch.
